How to Download a Print Ready CMYK PDF from Canva

You've worked hard and finally your masterpeice is ready—every thing is in place, the colors are beyond perfect, photos are beautiful and the font is fantastic! You are ready to PRINT! We want to help bring your vision to life! Follow these very simple steps to ensure your artwork is prepared correctly for every professional printing.

Before You Download

Before exporting your file, verify the following:

  • Review your design for spelling, grammar, and layout.
  • Make sure document is the intended trimmed, finished print size.
  • Build a safe margin for all text and content that isn't going to get trimmed. 
  • Keep important text, logos, and graphics at least 0.125" (1/8") inside the trim edge to prevent them from being cut off.
  • Ensure all images are high resolution, at minimum: 300dpi.
  • Extend any background colors or images to the edge of the page so they can bleed properly.

Step 1 – Open Your Design

  1. Log in to your Canva account.
  2. Open the design you want to print.
  3. Confirm that the design dimensions match the finished size of your printed product.

Step 2 – Select Share

  1. In the upper-right corner of Canva, click Share.
    In the Share menu, click Download.

    Step 2 – Select PDF Print

    Under File Type, choose:

    PDF Print

    This format provides the highest quality output for professional printing.

    Step 2A – Multiple Page Documents

    If your design contains multiple pages and you would like each page included, select All Pages.

    Whether combining pages into a single PDF, or selecting single pages, choose the option that best fits your printing needs.

    Step 3 – Use the CMYK Color Profile (If Available)

    If you have Canva Pro or Canva Teams, select:

    CMYK

    CMYK is the preferred color mode for professional printing because it produces more accurate printed colors.

    Note: If you do not see the Color Profile option, your Canva subscription may only support RGB exports. Your file can still be printed, but printed colors will vary slightly from what you see on your screen.        

    Under Advanced Settings turn on:

    • Crop Marks and Bleed

    This is very important because it adds:       

    • Crop marks showing where the document will be trimmed.
    • A bleed area that helps prevent unwanted white edges.        

      Step 4 – Download the PDF

      1. Click Download.
      2. Canva will generate your print-ready CMYK PDF.

      Verify Your PDF Before Uploading to Print Portal

      • ✔ The document is a PDF Print. Look for the .pdf extension on the end of your file.
      • ✔ Your document is CMYK.
      • ✔ Crop marks appear around the page.
      • ✔ Artwork extends beyond the crop marks (bleed).
      • ✔ Text and logos are not too close to the trim edge.
      • ✔ Images appear sharp.
      • ✔ All intended pages are included.

      Upload Your File

      1. Return to your Print Portal.
      2. Upload the PDF Print file.
      3. Complete your order.

      Tips for the Best Printing Results

      • Use high-resolution images (300 DPI recommended).
      • Avoid screenshots or low-quality web images, which are intended for web purposes not print purposes.
      • Keep text at least 1/8" (0.125") from the trim edge.
      • Extend backgrounds and graphics fully into the bleed area.
      • Export as PDF Print with Crop Marks and Bleed enabled.
      • Use the CMYK color profile whenever available.
